Game Jamming With the WildStar Team

Have you ever wonder what goes on inside the minds of the team over at Carbine Studios? Well it turns out that on certain special weekends the whole team puts aside their regular work and and get’s together for a little thing they like to call a Game Jam.

But what is a Game Jam you ask? Well the team member will set aside their regular work and, for 8 hours, just focus on creating something cool and exciting for WildStar. They get to put their skills to the test and try to design something really cool, something they may not get to work on otherwise, in a limited time frame. It sounds like a fun and challenging way to test out new ideas, and hopefully at the end there are some cool new things for players to enjoy.

Stress Test Part One: The Stressening

WildStar had it’s very first stress test recently, and man were those servers stressed! If you participated you know just how hectic things got. Instances were broken, programmers were stressed, and critical mass was reached. As far as a “Stress Test” goes it was a smashing success, and the WildStar team is already using the information they obtained to start improving the game.

If you missed the test itself, or even if you were on of the world breakers, and want to hear how it went you are in luck. Troy “Aether” Hewitt, Community Director for WildStar, posted some info on how the test went for the team. You can check out the whole story if you continue reading, and we would love to hear your thoughts about the test in the comments section. Continue reading

WildStar Economy 101

See the man in that picture? That’s Charles Durham, one of the men in charge of keeping WildStar’s economy all sorted out. Anyone familiar with an MMO economy knows that making funds available to players, without giving them too much cash and making things a little too easy, is no easy task. Luckily the WildStar team has some plans on how to keep their economy flowing they way they want, and they wanted to share some of those plans with the players.

Durham posted a nice piece today describing some of the ways the team plans on keeping the economy in check. Anyone who likes to make money selling of items and equipment to other players, or is just interested in how the economy of an MMO works, would do well to take look. And be sure to tell us what you think of these ideas in the comments section below. Continue reading

WildStar Wednesday: The Luminai

This week’s WildStar Wednesday post shines some light on a newly revealed race, the Luminai. The Luminai are an alien/human hybrid that, in my opinion, kind of resemble space elves. They’re tall, skinny, have pointed ears, everything you would expect of an elven race. They are associated with the Dominion, though at this time it is not known if they will be a playable race.

Along with a brief description of the race we are treated to a little lore as well. A few prominent Luminai are discussed, as well as a little bit of their history. They are a powerful race, holding high positions of nobility and power within the Dominion. It’s almost assured that players from both factions will be running into them over the course of the game, even if they are not playable themselves.
